Rusted steel and found scrap from steel fabricators are repurposed to meet project needs. Using standard materials in unusual ways surprise the beholder. This material withstands the harsh climate of the southwest.
Steel Trellises: 4Ó square steel tubing frames the trellises with 1/2Ó square steel tubing forming 4Ó grids. Trellises provide architectural elements that can easily be fabricated to meet the specific needs of the project. The trellis acts as windows to the natural vegetation adjacent to the garden. They also allow for animals to view passer-bys as well as containment. Shelves made of 1/2Ó steel plates allow potted plants to be arranged as needed.
Steel Sheets: The smaller sheet was scrap from making mailbox flags. 5Õx10Õ cortin steel sheets were purchased as scrap metal. The sheet added interest to the masonry wall while the plants are young and not in their mature state. Using these elements provided a very interesting and cost effective addition to the garden.
Woven Steel Fence: 4Ó square steel tubing posts are set every 10Õ to allow maximum use of the 4Ó w x 20Õl material. Cutting was minimized reducing the cost of construction. Cap was designed to create shadow interest and hold field collected stones on the posts.
Angle Iron Wall Extension: Client needed to increase the height of her existing wall. Standard steel channel replaced the masonry cap on top of the existing 6Ó wide wall. Angle iron in 2Ó and 3Ó widths were wielded to create vertical louvers. Wall was painted to welcome the rust that will channel down the grout lines.
